Hong Kong Delta-Region Intervarsity Debate 2007

Dear all,

Hong Kong Parliamentary Debating Society ( HKPDS) would like to congratulates Rachel Hui and Joanne Ng of HKU B who are Champions of the HKPDS Delta-Region Intervarsity Debating Championship 2007. The tournament saw 15 teams from seven Universities compete for the Championship in British Parliamentary style debating.

participating Universities were:

 Chinese University of Hong Kong (1 team)
 Hong Kong Baptist University (3 teams)
 Hong Kong Polytechnic University (2 teams)
 Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (1 team)
 Ling Nan University (2 teams)
 University of Macau (1 team)
 University of Hong Kong (4 teams)

The 6 Preliminary Rounds were held at the at the University of Hong Kong recently. The top 4 teams progressed into the Grand Final.

The Grand Finalists were:

Opening Government:
Poly A – Walter Wong & Florence Au (who broke 3rd tied on 12 points, averaging 151.4 speaker points per round)

Opening Opposition:
CUHK B – Alice Pang & Sanyi Shum (who broke 2nd tied on 12 points, averaging 153 speaker points per round)

Closing Government:
HKU B – Rachael Hui & Joanne Ng (who broke 1st on 17 points)

Closing Opposition:
HKU A – Pulcheria Chung & Linda Chan (who broke 4th tied on 11 points, averaging 153.83 speaker points per round)

The Grand Final Judges were:

 Le-Shan Kwan
 Tim Parker (Chair)

HKPDS would like to thank all the teams, judges and helpers for their tremendous contribution to the tournament. In particular, we would like to thank Irene Yeung and Dr. Albert Chau from HKU OSA who helped us to secure venues for the tournament.
