Brunei Environment Debate Competition 2007
Dear all,
BRUNEI Energy Association (Bena) is hosting an environment-oriented debate competition for secondary schools throughout the nation.Six teams took part in the quarter-finals yesterday at the Civil Service Institute.
The Paduka Seri Begawan Science College, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College (SOAS), St James School, and St Andrew School were each represented by a single team, while Chung Ching Middle School sent two. With a focus on renewable energy, yesterday's event saw the teams divided into three categories, with different topics.
In the first category, the Science College team acted as the proposition against Chung Ching Team 2 on the topic "Renewable Energy is Environmental Friendly" while the St James representatives challenged the other Chung Ching team on the motion that renewable energy is unnecessary for fossil fuel-rich countries.
In the final category, teams from St Andrews School and SOAS debated whether energy conservation is better than using renewable energy.Bena Secretariat spokesperson, Norizah Harun-Taylor, participating teams had been given a week to prepare their arguments according to their respective topics.
