Dear all,

The LDS collaborated with the GEO TV for the GEO National Debates, which were held on the GIK Institute Campus. 16 teams all over Pakistan took part in these debates. An episode of the “Pachaas Minute” was also shot in the Agha Hassan Abedi Auditorium. Representatives from India and the GIK Institute formed the two panels on the show to discuss the Indo-Pak relationship and a roadmap to peaceful relationships.

The same Literary and Debating society of GIKI University Pakistan, held their 6th GIKI Bilingual Parliamentary Style Debates 2007 recently. It was the third consecutive event of the LDS that had teams from across the border.

A total of eighteen teams belonging to nine local and three Indian institutes took part in the debates. The criterion of the competition was power-matching and based on adjudicator votes of individual matches. After three days of hectic debating, ingenious logic, tasteful wit and fiery points of information, the results were announced as follows:

English: IIT, Delhi, India (Winners) KEMU (Runners-up)
Urdu: GCU, Lahore, Pakistan (Winners) AIMC (Runners-up)

This was the second consecutive win for IIT, Delhi who took away the rolling trophy last year too .The best speaker trophies were awarded to Daniyal Asad of Agha Khan University (AKU) in English and Hamza Aslam of Government College University (GCU) in Urdu.

The event had been sponsored by Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC), Frontier Works Organization (F.W.O) and Askari Bank. The event proved to be a grand success, having made it to all major English and Urdu papers, as well as television coverage by Pakistani channels.
