Pakistan All-Karachi Inter-Madaris Debate Competition 2007














Dear all,

Dr Sher Ali Shah, renowned religious scholar and mentor of world’s most wanted men, Osama bin Laden and Mulla Muhammad Omar, will be the chief guest at the final of All-Karachi Inter-Madaris Debate Competition recently being at a local seminary.

Currently serving as the administrator of Jamia Haqqania, Akora Khattak, in NWFP, Shah is considered one of the most intriguing persons in the world because he allegedly has influence over bin Laden and Taliban’s Supreme Commander Mulla Omar as well as other Taliban leaders in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The debate competition is being held under the aegis of Majlis Sautul Islam (Voice of Islam Society) Pakistan, in which some 567 students from 46 Madaris that impart religious courses equal to the Masters level are participating. The semi-finals of the debate competition were held at the top five Madressahs in Karachi on Thursday night after Isha prayers, in which 100 contestants took part but only 19 of them managed to enter into the final of the competition.

Top religious scholars from entire Pakistan including former MNA Maulana Hasan Jan, Dr Muhammad Saad Siddiqui, grandson of Syed Attaullah Shah Bukhari Syed Kafil Shah Bukhari, Mufti Muhammad Idrees and Maulana Ihteshamul Haq Aasiabadi will be the judges of the final of debate competition.

Earlier, the semi-finals of the debate competition were held at Jamia Islamia Anwarul Uloom, Jamia Islamia Gulberg, Jamia Usmania Clifton, Jamia Islamia Darul Khair Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Darul Uloom Hanfia.

As many as 19 students were selected for the final of the competition, for which 567 students from 46 Madaris, registered themselves while 100 of them participated in the semi-finals of the declamation competition. During the competition, they were asked to express their views in the light of Islamic teachings on role of Madaris, pious caliphs’ social welfare activities (Khulfa-e-Rashideen), Islam and Peace, Rights of Minorities in an Islamic state, Islam and Human Rights, Women rights, Justice in Islam and role of Ulema in the society.
